Yogathon 2021 was a celebration of yoga and community, all while supporting Sea Change Yoga’s mission to bring the healing power of yoga and mindfulness to Maine’s most vulnerable communities!
This past year has been beyond difficult, and it showed us the value of support and compassion both for ourselves and for each other. The practice of yoga allows us to take care of ourselves so that, in turn, we can take care of others. Yogathon 2021, presented by Currency Camp, is an opportunity to practice these two actions: while participating together in movement, relaxation, and mindfulness, we are caring for ourselves and also caring for our community by raising funds that will ensure Sea Change can continue to do its work serving our most vulnerable neighbors. It’s care and compassion—in action.
Care for Community
Our goal is to raise $50,000 at Yogathon 2021.
Yogathon 2021, a virtual event via Zoom, will feature a three-hour yoga experience with renowned teachers and leaders Jacqui Bonwell, Michelle C. Johnson, David Vaughan, Rachel Nixon and Lisa Boldin that you won’t want to miss— check out our program below! Your participation in this day of togetherness and rejuvenation will support our mission and enable us to teach 500 trauma-informed yoga classes to our neighbors who otherwise wouldn’t have access to these healing tools.

PRACTICE: Yoga from the Inside Out with David Vaughan
Begin your day with this slow flowing practice focused on building your practice and your postures from the inner pose to the outer pose. Connect your breath to the inner and outer architecture of each posture in this slow moving hatha practice. With a focus on the hips and shoulders, David will lead you through a sequence that will help you stay connected to your breath and body on and off the mat.
WORKSHOP: Yoga & Social Justice with Michelle Cassandra Johnson
This inclusive, all-levels workshop is designed for anyone who wants to understand how to link the practices of inner and outer change- on the mat, off of the mat, and within their lives. We will deepen our understanding of the principles of justice and of yoga, the workings of power and privilege, oppression and identity, suffering and liberation, and loving kindness. We’ll explore the ways each of us can respond to the current cultural and political challenges through practices of self-study, movement, pranayama, contemplation and collective action.

PRACTICE: Chakra Cleanse Vinyasa Flow with Jacqui Bonwell
Jacqui’s signature Vinyasa Yoga flow is a physical journey through the 7 major chakras, our body’s energy centers. Use postures, breath, color, meditation, chanting & sound healing to reach higher internal states. Get on the internal good foot and wake up dormant skills & resources that maybe haven't spoken in a while. Get back to the strength you were born with!

PRACTICE: Yin and Yoga Nidra with Rachel Nixon
Slow down, soften, sink in. This class is an invitation to let go into the present moment through yin yoga, mindfulness meditation, and guided yoga nidra. We will practice simply being – in the moment, in our bodies, with kind awareness. Every body is different, and you will be invited to explore what works for you. The quiet, meditative practices will nourish and restore your being at all levels. A great way to wind down at the end of the Yogathon!
WORKSHOP: Trauma, the Body, and the Healing Path of Yoga with Lisa Boldin
At Sea Change Yoga, we know that Yoga Heals. But how? Join Lisa Boldin from the Center for Trauma and Embodiment in Massachusetts for an informative workshop on how yoga offers an opportunity to be present and embodied, fostering a path to heal the effects of trauma. Lisa will speak about the impact of trauma on the body and what happens when the stress response is activated. You will have the opportunity to experience the benefits of trauma-informed yoga during this workshop.
