Our Teachers
Monica Bouyea
Monica (she/her/hers) is a bi-racial, bi-cultural, queer creative dancing among and melding identities, living beyond that which can be labeled, and finding beauty in the complexity of what it means to be a living being on this planet.
Her personal yoga practice - including completing a 200-hour yoga teacher training in Rishikesh, India, in 2022 - has largely been fueled by her desire to more deeply know and connect to her family roots in India, to understand and uplift where she comes from. Yoga, to her, means honoring ancient wisdom and practices, centering love for ourselves and all beings, and putting that love in action.
Monica believes in the power of community - to grow, to heal, to celebrate, and to transform. She is passionate about the intersections of yoga and social justice, and she believes that individual healing and collective liberation are intricately intertwined. She has worked in several nonprofit and social justice organizations locally, including supporting youth through restorative justice processes, working with survivors of domestic violence and human trafficking, and connecting college students with community engagement opportunities. She is excited and grateful to hold space for community to explore how yoga in all its expansiveness can be a transformative part of our lives, in whatever ways we may need in the moment.
